Applications for another cohort of The Equipping Next Gen Ag and Conservation Professionals Mentorship Program beginning in Spring 2025 are now open!


Are you a grad student or similar stage emerging leader interested in a career in agriculture and conservation? Are you ready to explore your purpose and possible career paths in a supportive environment that includes one-on-one mentorship and professional trainings? Do you want to foster a sense of belonging and community with an inspiring circle of peers? Apply now for the Spring 2025 cohort! Applications due December 16th.


This program is led by Dr. Akilah Martin in partnership with Green Lands Blue Waters. The program focuses on BIPOC graduate students in the Upper Midwest (Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Missouri) who are interested in careers in agricultural conservation and committed to reaching farmers who have been historically underserved. The program provides opportunities to connect with farmers, professionals, scientists and peers representing diverse agricultural communities across the region. Program mentors have topic expertise and lived experience as people of color with careers in Midwest agriculture. Learn more about current mentors here. The program includes:

  • one-on-one mentorship

  • a virtual training series on preparing for a career in agriculture and natural resources

  • a science communication workshop

  • a farmer perspectives learning event

  • an in-person retreat

  • professional networking opportunities

  • group mentoring
