On-farm data at your fingertips.

The Wisconsin Cover Crop Data Network (WCCDN) works with farmers statewide to organize on-farm data collection on cover crop management practices. Explore the interactive tools above to see how different farm systems use all kinds of cover crops, and see biomass results and analyses of nutrient and forage quality on various soils. Scroll down to read our 5-Year Report and Annual Reports to learn more about our process, participants, and over-all takeaways from the research. Watch the video below to meet our research team and learn more about the project and tools.

Network and Tools
In December 2025, the Soil Health Nexus Digital Café spotlighted the Wisconsin Cover Crop Data Network with project director Dr. Mrill Ingram. The WCCDN began in 2020 with just 15 farmers and now has 50-60 farmers participating each year, representing farms of different systems and sizes - from 3 to 10,000 acres. Together we have built a unique farmer-led dataset and sharing platform on cover crop management and results in counties across the state. This video highlights the tools created and lessons learned.

The Wisconsin Cover Crop Data Network is a joint effort with UW-Madison's NPM Program, The Nature Conservancy, and UW-Madison's WICST project. The Network is supported by the Soil Health Alliance for Research and Education, a collaboration between Michael Fields Agricultural Institute, the USDA Dairy Forage Research Center, and UW-Madison Center for Integrated Agricultural Systems. We are grateful to over 150 collaborating Wisconsin farmers.
