Strengthening a community of urban growers across Milwaukee and beyond
In the early 1990s, a passionate group at Michael Fields Agricultural Institute recognized the value of bridging rural and urban communities through sustainable farming. This vision led to several years of hosting the Urban Rural Conference. In collaboration with many Milwaukee-based organizations, MFAI also supported the formation of the Milwaukee Urban Agriculture Network (MUAN).
After a quiet period, MUAN is sprouting back—and growing good in the neighborhood.

Facilitated by the Michael Fields Agricultural Institute, MUAN connects urban growers of all kinds with education, resources, and networks through potlucks, webinars, and field days. MUAN partners with UW Extension and urban agriculture organizations across Milwaukee County to support regional networks where organizations uplift one another and strengthen the local food movement.
