When Michelle Cannon first started farming in 2008, she had no background in agriculture, just the sense that her community needed more local growers. he learned through during that organic, soil health practices were the way to success for her farm. She also realized that if she wanted to build a viable, profitable business, she needed to extend her season beyond the warm months. So, with the help of two friends who loaned her money for a greenhouse, she invested in a movable tunnel and set her sights on winter production.
“My trusty well used Elliot Coleman Winter Growers Handbook at my side and 15 years later a ton of hard learned lessons and I’m feeding many families every day of the year!” - Michelle Cannon
Today, Michelle and her farm partner, Morgan Sisson, produce flavorful, nutrient-rich vegetables year-round and are excited to share what they’ve learned with other growers.

On Monday, September 22, 2025, the Milwaukee Urban Agriculture Network (MUAN) will host a free webinar, All Seasons Growing in the Midwest, featuring Michelle and Morgan. In this session, they will share their story of how they made year-round farming not only possible, but profitable and fun. They will reflect on the lessons they’ve learned, the infrastructure and labor systems that keep their farm running, and the marketing strategies they use to stay connected with buyers.
The live webinar runs from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. CDT and is open to growers of all experience levels. Registration is free, and all registrants will receive a recording of the session to watch later.
This online conversation is a great way to start to get to know the LarryVille method before part two in the event series, a hands-on farm tour at LarryVille Gardens on Thursday, October 9. Carpool options from Milwaukee to the farm tour will be available.
Both events are free to attend, but registration is required.
