Learn how to use goats milk for soap, cheese, yogurt and more!

You’ve always wanted to make your own soap, but you keep putting off trying it. You’ve even looked up a recipe on the Internet, but the lye part scares you. Well, come and learn how to make your own homemade soap from goat’s milk for $60 at the Goat Milk Soap Making workshop on Friday, June 3 from 9:00am – 2:00pm at Michael Fields Agricultural Institute! You can register here.

Maybe you are more interested in (or also interested in!) making your own yogurt or cheese. C’mon and try your hand at the Goat Milk Processing workshop on Friday, June 17 from 9:00am – 2:00pm at Michael Fields Agricultural Institute! You’ll learn everything you need to know and even have some results to bring home for $60 workshop fee. You can register here.

You don’t have to own a goat to appreciate their usefulness, cuteness, and comic antics, not to mention their milk. Most people who are lactose intolerant can enjoy goat milk products. If you’ve tried goats milk and don’t like it, you probably either aren’t used to whole cow’s milk or you got it from a farm that didn’t cool it quick enough, leaving some of the “goatiness” or barn odor in the milk. Goat’s milk tastes much like whole cow’s milk, so if you’re used to drinking 1% or skim milk, you probably aren’t used to the taste.

If you’ve wanted to make your own soap or yogurt from goat’s milk, now’s your chance! You can get goats milk from a local farmer to use, and make gifts for friends and family. Spend a day at Michael Fields and learn, start to finish, how to make your own soap from scratch. Or learn how to make goat’s milk cheese, yogurt and other dairy products. Join us at Michael Fields Agricultural Institute for these two Whole Farm Workshops!
